Taro went to the princess and said, "Seven days have passed since I came to the palace, so I must return home. Thank you for everything." The princess answered, "I wish you could stay here forever, but if you must go, take this box. Only do not open it, no matter what happens." Taro received the box and climbed once more onto the great turtle’s back.

When Taro reached the beach and looked around, something felt strange. It seemed to be his village, yet the roads and houses were different from what he remembered. He asked a passing villager, "Do you know where Urashima Taro’s house is?" The villager replied, "Urashima Taro? I do not know him, but I have heard that a young man by that name went out to sea a hundred years ago and never returned."
