Worried, the old man and the old woman asked Princess Kaguya, "Princess Kaguya, why do you cry when you look at the Moon?" She answered, "The truth is, I came from the Moon. Soon they will come to take me back there. I cry because it is so painful to say goodbye to the two of you, who cared for me with such kindness."

Surprised, the old man and the old woman told the emperor Princess Kaguya’s story. When the day came for the people of the Moon to take her back, the emperor sent many samurai to protect her. The full Moon rose high in the sky. Then it began to shine intensely, and a beautiful lunar procession descended, surrounded by attendants. The samurai tried to shoot arrows, but the light was so strong that their eyes were dazzled and they could see nothing.
