Long, long ago, in a certain place, there lived an old man and an old woman. One day, when the old woman went to the river to wash clothes, she saw a huge peach drifting down the current, bobbing gently on the water until it came near the bank.

The old woman took the peach home and tried to open it. Then, from inside it, a strong and lively boy was born. The old man and the old woman were overjoyed. "Since he was born from a peach, let’s call him Momotaro." And so they raised Momotaro with great care.
